Sustainability

Each year we try to reduce the environmental impact of the event. It’s been a challenge but here is our progress so far:

Santa Suits: Since 2021 we offer an eco option allowing entrants to provide/reuse their own santa costume (subject to our dress code and festive theme) which avoids charging for the santa suit. Last year 25% of adults entering choose this option.

Medals: Our medals for 2026 are made from re-cycled zinc and the ribbons from re-cycled polyester (rPET) – all supplied by the lovely people at Running Imp.

Water: We have looked into removing single use plastic bottles from the event but so far it is proving too impractical. We will keep working on it though. Please dispose of your plastic bottle responsibly.

Dogs: We love to see your canine companions in their festive gear at the Lincoln Santa Fun Run. But you must make sure you clean up any mess (failure to do so may result in dogs being banned in future years). We will have a dog station, manned by Lincoln Guide Dogs, in Castle Sqaure where you can pick up free dog poo bags before or after the event.

Food & Drink: We have a policy of not providing food and drink vendors in the event areas – this is because

  • there are many local food & drink outlets in the vicinity which we wish to be supported through the event
  • space is very limited in Castle Square and Minster Yard
  • we strive to minimise the amount of rubbish left after the run finishes, takeaway food and drinks do not help this

How you can help too:

  • if you can please car share or use public transport (this will also lessen the impact of the event on local residents)
  • take any rubbish away with you to dispose of it properly
  • if you have one of our santa suits please dispose of it properly or even better if you can, look after it and keep it to use with an eco-entry place next year
  • please help us support local businesses by using the food and drink outlets in the vicinity
